Many people don’t realise that search engines such as Google rank content differently on mobile devices than they do for desktop computers.
Put simply, if your website isn’t usable via a mobile device, then it won’t rank as well in Google’s mobile search result pages. Furthermore, if you choose to go down the route of maintaining a separate mobile site (m.example.com), then you need to be sure to indicate the linkages between that site and your desktop site to avoid confusing search engine robots.
With this in mind, I recently put together a detailed guide to mobile SEO and the different structural options available, which you can read in full here.
